Rupin Pass Trek | Uttarakhand & Himachal Pradesh

Rupin Pass, which runs for 65 kilometres between the states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, is one of India’s grandest cross-border treks. Every curve on the route feels like a gigantic theatre curtain is unfurling, exposing stunning landscapes soaked in a mind-boggling palette of colours that leave you speechless. There is never a dull moment on the trail, whether it’s hiking through dense pine and rhododendron forests or meandering through a hanging village, crossing massive glacial valleys or trudging through the narrow and steep gully of Rupin Pass, glissading down snow chutes to Ronti Gad or climbing to the top of a waterfall.

The Rupin Pass Trek’s Highlights

The Rupin Pass, which rises to 4,650 metres above sea level, is a moderate-level trip ideal for trekkers who have already completed an easy trek and want to step up their game. Although the daily distances covered are fair and the height rise on the hike is consistent, the trail does present some challenges that necessitate a unique set of abilities to manage its environment successfully.

Not only does the landscape change, but so does everything else. As we travel from campsite to campsite, the Rupin River takes on new forms. This is perhaps our favourite feature of the walk if we had to pick one. The fact that you may trek from the riverbed in Dhaula to the summit of the Rupin Waterfall makes it unique. Few people can claim to have watched a river’s journey as closely as one can on the Rupin Pass Trek!
